Emotions: Look for what's good
Watch this video and then we'll do our frst action. Ready?
Hi. l'm Abi, your happiness coach.
And today we're exploring emotions and looking for what's good.
I hope you're feeling good today, but if not, remember, it's okay to not be okay.
Noticing the good things can be hard.especially in difficult times.
But even on the tough days we can still find small moments of joy or things to be grateful for.
On any given day we have a range of experiences.
There may be good things that happen, but there are also causes of worry and stress.
As humans, we naturally focus on what's wrong.
This is called our negativity bias meaning that we tend to notice negative things more than the good things.
This tendency goes all the way back to the beginning of human history, when we were concernedwith basic survival.
Paying attention to possible dangers kept us alive.
Today, we still use this tendency to help us stay safe.
But our negativity bias means we often overlook the good things around us.
These good things can be big or small, from a significant event to something as simple as a nice cup of tea.
When we notice more of the good things as well as the bad it helps create a healthieremotional balance.
In fact, learning to be grateful for what's good can bring lots of benefits,
Studies show that people who write downwhat they are grateful for each day feel happier, get better sleep andare less likely to experience depression.
But it's not enough to just know these things.
We need to put them into action.
So let's give this a try right now.
Bring to mind something that made you smile recently.
Now look around you and notice one thing you're grateful for, however small.
I really hope this action helps you feel happier even if things aren't perfect today.
Now, using what you've just brought to mind.
note down your answer in the box below.
What are you grateful for and why?
